Alien bodies in Mexico: Controversy and accusations of "contempt for science"

Two models of what look like aliens were presented to Mexican lawmakers under the dome of parliament by a controversial self-proclaimed expert on the subject.

Jaime Maussan, a journalist specializing in UFOs and the study of unidentified flying objects and space phenomena, showed two small coffins containing supposed fossils of aliens to lawmakers on Tuesday.

"They are non-human beings, not part of our terrestrial evolution," Moussan said during a session organized by MP Sergio Guterres on behalf of the "common interest."

He confirmed that the two mummies found in Peru "are about a thousand years old," based on carbon-14 analyses conducted by the Autonomous University of Mexico.

The university's Institute of Physics confirmed in a statement that it had conducted analyses but only to determine the age of the samples, not their origin.

He pointed out that his laboratory "distances itself from any other use, interpretation or distortion regarding the results it published."

The French version of the Huffington Post said that these two mummies are not aliens and that they were "discovered years ago."

The Huffington Post added that one of the mummies "was evaluated by an anthropologist , whose conclusions were clear that the mummy in question was a collection of different mummified human remains."

"The reception of Jaime Maussan in the Chamber of Deputies shows this country's disdain for science," said one Mexican internet user.

Others mocked the session, calling for Musan to become the "chief of intergalactic relations."

On July 26, former intelligence officer David Grosch told a US congressional committee that authorities were hiding evidence of the existence of aliens.

He stressed that he was "completely" convinced that the United States possessed a mysterious object that the American authorities classified as an "unidentified paranormal phenomenon."

After months of work, NASA is set to release a long-awaited report on the sensitive subject of UFOs on Thursday that will provide a roadmap for future study of these mysterious phenomena.
